What We Mulch and Clear in Flagler County
Scrub oak, sand pine, rosemary and palmetto on the ITT lots of Pine Lakes, Seminole Woods, Quail Hollow and Matanzas Woods. Standing trees to 8 inches go down in one pass; specimen trees over 18 inches stay under the city code. West of US 1 the ground turns to pine flatwoods with gallberry and wax myrtle, and grape vine runs through the understory. Brazilian pepper near the coast gets mulched and the stumps treated. Small trees and sapling sand pine mulch in seconds; palmetto root systems take the time, because the drum has to shred the mat a rotary cutter only combs.
Acreage and Pasture Mulching Around Palm Coast, FL
Overgrown acreage at Daytona North, Espanola and along SR 11 is flatwoods and old pasture gone to wax myrtle and volunteer pine. We clear land like that at an acre a day in thick growth, two in light brush, and the 300-hp machine past 5 acres. Fire breaks and fence lines first. On our jobs in Flagler the scrub-jay and tortoise surveys come before the trailer moves, and on the flatwoods side the wet corners get flagged because a mulcher floats where a dozer sinks.
Residential Mulching Services: Lots and Backyards, Not a Tree Service
A quarter-acre ITT lot is $1,900 flat; a half acre is one day, $2,700. Backyards in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach went to Brazilian pepper, vine and sapling oak against the fence; the heavy-duty head fits a 10-foot gate, and we cut trees it cannot swallow. Trees and brush become a 2 to 4 inch layer of mulched material around the landscape beds. Tree removal over a roof is a tree service job, not ours. I know people who do.
Forestry Mulching Cost in Flagler County: Mulch by the Day or the Acre
Scrub on the ITT lots mulches at $1,100 to 1,700 an acre. Pine flatwoods west of US 1 run $1,400 to 2,300 by density. Live oak hammock on the coastal ridge, oaks kept, is selective clearing at $2,000 to 3,200. The transport line south of the Parkway and the wet-season day on flatwoods go in the written price first. Scrub sand drains so fast the mosquitoes gave up on it.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,700 a day, transport included north of the Parkway.
- 300-hp mulcher: $4,100 a day plus transport, stems to 12 inches, for the tracts west of US 1.
- Haul-off at $650 to 1,200 per 10-yard load when the material cannot stay.
Free estimates on-site, with the transport line shown on the written quote. Pick a slot on the calendar or call (904) 406-7990. I text the same evening.
After Mulching: Drive It, Grind It Twice, or Grade a Pad
You are left with 2 to 4 inches of chipped sand pine, oak and palmetto as ground cover, drivable the same day without a rut. What thin topsoil scrub has stays in place. Scrub oak resprouts from the root collar and palmetto from the crown, so I grind the thick patches again the next dry season. Cleared areas meant for a house pad still need the root rake at $165 an hour, then 12 inches of compacted fill above crown of road. Cleared ground meant for sod gets the material raked into strips.
Permits, Tortoises and Wetlands Before Mulching or Land Clearing in Flagler County
Inside Palm Coast no vegetation gets cleared without a building permit: the city land clearing permit and tree code, Chapter 10 of its Land Development Code, protect specimen trees 18 inches DBH and up. Outside the city, Flagler County wants a clearing permit over 1 acre. The SJRWMD Environmental Resource Permit is triggered by fill and drainage changes, not mulching. FWC gopher tortoise rules mean a survey before nearly every ITT lot, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, and the Florida scrub-jay brings FWS consultation in the scrub. Eagle nests on Pellicer Creek and Graham Swamp carry a 660-foot buffer. The survey report sits in the folder before the trailer rolls.
Where Our Insured Forestry Mulching Service Works in Flagler County
Palm Coast, Bunnell, Flagler Beach, Daytona North, Beverly Beach, Marineland, Espanola and Korona. The service area covers the Flagler County area and the rest of Northeast Florida, St. Johns, Duval, Clay, Nassau and Baker, transport included north of the Parkway. The yard is 95 miles north in Middleburg, near the St. Johns River; I built pads at NS Mayport before I owned a mulcher, and most of my calls still come from a (904) number.
Frequently Asked Questions About Mulching Services
How much does mulching cost per acre on an ITT lot?
Between $1,100 and 1,700 an acre on scrub, $1,400 to 2,300 on the flatwoods west of US 1. By the day, $2,700 for the skid steer and $4,100 plus transport for the 300-hp machine. A quarter-acre ITT lot is $1,900 flat, and the south side adds the transport line.
How is mulching different from traditional clearing on an ITT lot?
Traditional clearing pushes everything into a dozer pile and then burns or hauls it, and on a platted lot neither one is allowed in practice. Mulching grinds trees and brush in place and leaves the material as cover. Land clearing in Flagler County with a dozer still fits when a pad is coming.
Will mulching kill the scrub oak and underbrush permanently?
No. Scrub oak resprouts from the root collar and palmetto from the crown; a 3-inch mulch layer only slows them. A second pass the next dry season takes most of it, and undergrowth comes back thin. To eliminate the roots for good, the root rake has to pull them.
Can I drive on the mulched lot?
Yes, the same day. On sugar sand the 2 to 4 inch layer of mulched material carries a pickup without a rut and a concrete truck after a dry week. For a driveway or pad the layer is raked off first. Mulching leaves a lot walkable and clear, not buildable.
Does the service reach commercial sites and the rest of North Florida?
Yes. Commercial sites on SR 100 and the US 1 corridor get the same crew as a backyard in Seminole Woods. We work the whole metro, Flagler County FL north to St. Johns and Nassau, and refer out demolition and stump grinding. Cleanup is included, and the 2026 dry season is already on the calendar.
